Research Training and Scholarly Activity during General Pediatric Residency in Canada

Image
Research training and scholarly activity are integral components of general pediatric residency programs in Canada. They ensure that residents are well-equipped with the skills needed to critically evaluate and conduct research, which in turn contributes to the advancement of pediatric healthcare. Here are some key points and aspects of this training: Structure of Research Training Research Curriculum : Many residency programs include a structured curriculum that covers essential topics such as research methodology, biostatistics, epidemiology, and ethics in research. Workshops and Seminars : Regular workshops and seminars on research design, data analysis, and scientific writing are commonly part of the training. Protected Research Time : Programs often provide protected time during the residency for residents to focus on their research projects, ensuring they can dedicate sufficient time to their scholarly activities without compromising clinical training. Scientists plan sea explosions to resolve Malaysian Airlines MH 370 mystery

After more than a decade, the mystery behind the disappearance of Malaysian airlines MH 370 flight still remains unsolved, but now, researchers at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom have come up with a novel plan to unravel it — sea explosions. According to the findings of the study published in the Scientific Reports, it recommends that the authorities conduct controlled underwater explosions along the 7th arc and monitor the signals which will be received as a product at the hydroacoustic stations in the surrounding area. “The main search area at the 7th arc lies less than 2,000km away from the hydroacoustic station at Cape Leeuwin, Australia, with no impediments to filter out the signal,” Dr Usama Kadri, Senior Lecturer at the Cardiff University said, adding that “further analysis and future research are therefore necessary to fully comprehend the detected signals and their implications for MH370's disappearance.” The MH 370 flight disappeared on March 8, 2014 when it was

NASA partners with Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Eclipse viewing experience

INDIANAPOLIS — The Solar Eclipse will be visible in Indiana one year from today. This event marks the first total solar eclipse in the United States since August of 2017 and the first one in Indy since the year 1205. Aside from Austin and Dallas, Indy is the largest city with a direct hit in the path of totality. The 'Eclipse Capital of the Midwest' is expected to have an influx of more that 1 million visitors to witness the phenomenon. To prepare, NASA and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway have teamed up for an exciting day of programming and celebration. On April 8, 2024, NASA will broadcast live from the IMS and be on hand to answer questions and guide viewers through the experience. IMS is one of only three broadcast locations across the country to partner with NASA for the event, according a NASA announcement. In addition, over 100 events will take place over the Solar Eclipse weekend in Indy. Some of the events include: Total Eclipse of the Art fe

Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants, algae, and some bacteria convert light energy into chemical energy stored in glucose. This process is essential for life on Earth as it provides the primary source of energy for nearly all organisms and releases oxygen into the atmosphere. Here's a brief overview of the photosynthesis process: Key Components of Photosynthesis:Chlorophyll: The green pigment found in the chloroplasts of plant cells, which captures light energy. Light Energy: Usually from the sun, it is absorbed by chlorophyll. Water (H₂O): Absorbed by plant roots from the soil. Carbon Dioxide (CO₂): Taken from the air through the plant's leaves. Glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆): A type of sugar that is produced and used by the plant for energy and growth. Oxygen (O₂): Released as a byproduct into the atmosphere. The Photosynthesis Equation: The overall balanced equation for photosynthesis is: 6CO2+6H2O+light energy→C6H12O6+6O26CO_

Snake Venom to The Rescue

Image
However, the researchers point out that drug development from a native toxin of snake venom is tedious. To overcome this problem, Mukherjee and his collaborators developed two novel custom peptides (commercially produced peptides for use in biomedical laboratories) — TNP and HNP, inspired by snake venom neurotrophin, that regulate the development, maintenance, and function of vertebrate nervous systems. These peptides show selective binding to human TrkA receptor of nerve cells and, hence, can improve the selectivity and specificity of drug molecules toward the receptor, thereby enhancing the therapeutic potency of those drug molecules. Mukherjee emphasises that the low molecular weight, structural stability, small size, and target sensitivity of the peptides make them powerful tools for conquering the limitations of using endogenous neurotrophins as therapeutic agents. This drug-like peptide discovered by the group can potentially reduce the progression of neurodegenerative diseases

AI: To Buy or Not to Buy

Shortly after General Electric spun off its HealthCare division, the newly released company started buying AI technology. To share some strategic insights, Digital Science’s IFI CLAIMS Patent Services has taken a look at the target companies’ patents to see what capabilities they’re bringing into the medical technology company. The phrase ‘patently obvious’ is used in many contexts, from political exchanges to newspaper op-ed columns. Curiously, it is rarely used in the realm of actual patents, but in the case of General Electric’s (GE) HealthCare division, its use seems entirely appropriate. In early 2023, GE made the decision to spin off GE HealthCare, and immediately following the move the new entity started its M&A strategy by acquiring two companies of its own – Caption Health and IMACTIS. At this early stage, is it possible to infer whether these were sound investments? Six months later, there is still a way to go before full year financial results are posted along with other
